TeachingEnglish Teachers Welcome to this week's edition of the TeachingEnglish newsletter! This week we are happy to announce that episode 4, Where there's a CLIL there's a way, of our new ten-part podcast 'The Climate Connection' is available to listen to. We also have a new, interesting report by Steve Mann, Understanding the effectiveness of professional development opportunities for teachers delivered remotely. For the classroom, we have two lesson plans to celebrate two special days: World Chocolate Day (7 July) and Mandela Day (18 July). We are also pleased to announce that the Hornby Trust Teacher Association Project scheme 2021/22 call for applications is open, and The Teacher Trainer journal is back, online, and currently free!  The Climate Connection episode 4: Where there's a CLIL there's a way Episode 4 in our ten-part podcast series exploring the relationship between the climate crisis and language education looks into what teaching and learning methods can effectively address the climate crisis. Teaching materials are the focus of episode 4, specifically how we can maintain the right balance between content and language. Aleksandra Zaparucha guides us through the world of CLIL, while Linda Ruas and Owain Alexander talk about their websites (Easier English Wiki and ELT Sustainable), which provide hundreds of free-to-use lesson plans on climate-related issues. |

 Mandela Day Mandela Day is celebrated every year on 18 July. This integrated skills lesson plan for upper-secondary students looks at Nelson Mandela's life and explores some of the themes surrounding South Africa during apartheid. Students will learn about Mandela and then discuss ideas for projects to help others. |

|  Chocolate: from the land to the hand Celebrate World Chocolate Day with this lesson for teenagers and adults at B1+ level. The aim of the lesson is to learn who makes our chocolate and, importantly, who receives our money each time we buy a bar of chocolate. Students will develop their reading skills and become aware of the injustices. |

 Hornby Trust Teacher Association Project scheme 2021/22 The Hornby Trust and British Council are pleased to announce the Hornby Trust Teacher Association Project scheme 2021/22. The call for applications is now open. New applications from Teacher Associations in countries on the list of ODA recipient countries are welcome, and guidance documents and the proposal form can be found on the Hornby projects page. |

|  Understanding the effectiveness of professional development opportunities for teachers delivered remotely A year on from the start of the pandemic, this evaluation looks at existing literature around remote learning effectiveness in general and at specific examples of the use of different remote channels currently being deployed on three British Council teacher development programmes in Palestine, Egypt and Syria, and on one regional programme involving teachers from across the Middle East and North Africa region.
