LearnEnglish Kids Newsletter
March 2015

Welcome to the latest LearnEnglish Kids newsletter.

SPRING!

March 20th is the start of spring in the UK. Children will love making our Spring hat craft. Watch the video to find out how, then download the worksheet. Younger kids will also enjoy The leaves on the tree song and The lazy bear story, all about the changing seasons. Both the song and the story have printable worksheets.

Older kids can try our Spring spelling game, where they need to burst balloons to spell the words! They can also write about spring and other seasons in their country on our Seasons your turn.

Other spring celebrations include Holi, the Hindu spring festival of colours on March 6th, and Nowruz, the New Year in Iran on March 21st. Children can learn about these and other festivals from around the world in our new Festivals around the world quiz.

ARTS AND CRAFTS

Kids love arts and crafts, and this is a great way to practise English. Watch our Making puppets video tip to see how to combine arts and crafts with English practice. If you make puppets with your children, why not use them to put on a puppet show, with a theatre invitation and tickets to sell for the show!

We have lots of other craft activities that your children will enjoy making too. Teachers can find out more about doing crafts in the classroom in the Kids and arts and crafts article on our sister site, TeachingEnglish.

THE ENVIRONMENT

This month has lots of environmental events. March 2nd-8th is Climate Week in Britain, March 22nd is World Water Day, and March 28th is Earth Hour. On LearnEnglish Kids, we have many resources about helping the environment for your child to try.

In our Planet Earth story children can read about a school trip to the Planet Earth museum, and they will enjoy singing along to our It's up to me and you song about helping to save the planet.

Both activities have downloadable worksheets.Older kids will love our fun games How green are you? and Clean and green, about what to do at home to look after the environment. Younger children can try our Environment paint the words game to learn what to do and what not to do to be environmentally friendly.

PARENTS' SECTION
Have you seen our parents' section? This is a great place to find resources if you are helping your child learn English. Check out our weekly top tips, and go to Helping your child for lots of useful ideas and advice.

You can use our search tool to help you find activities for your child, according to their level, age, or what topics they are interested in. You can also see our learning apps for kids, find an English course at your local British Council, and try other useful websites for your child.

If you need advice about helping your child learn English, please ask us on our forums. We love to hear questions and suggestions from both parents and teachers! If you are a teacher, try recommending our parents' section to the parents of your students to enable them to better support their child's learning at home.

We'll keep you up to date in every newsletter, but why not 'like' our Facebook page for daily updates and more ideas!
