LearnEnglish Kids Newsletter February 2015 Welcome to the latest LearnEnglish Kids newsletter. NEW CHILDREN'S APP: LEARNING TIME WITH TIMMY Discover new English words with Timmy and his friends in our brand-new Learning Time with Timmy tablet app! Listen to the narrator to place toys in a box, pop balloons to learn numbers and sweep away leaves and snow to find food and objects hidden beneath. Collect stickers as your child progresses through the games and decorate the sticker book! The tablet app is aimed at children 6 years and younger and will be available on the Apple, Google Play and Amazon App Stores in early February. Find out more here.   CHINESE NEW YEAR Chinese New Year is on February 19th, and this year is the year of the sheep! To celebrate, we have a great new Sheep quiz for older children, and younger children can play our Sheep label the picture game. To find out more about celebrating Chinese New Year, watch our My favourite day story. You can find your Chinese zodiac animal at the end, and then watch The great race story to learn about all the animals in the Chinese calendar. Finally, sing about the special things that people do at this time with our Happy New Year song. Kids might also like to make a Chinese lantern or dragon craft to decorate the room. If they celebrate Chinese New Year, they can write to us on our Chinese New Year your turn and tell us what they do! Xin nian kuai le, everybody! ONLINE SAFETY Safer Internet Day, on February 10th, helps promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people in the UK and around the world.  On LearnEnglish Kids, children can play our new Online safety quiz and other online safety games to learn about staying safe on the internet, and write on the site about any extra tips they have on our Internet safety your turn. Parents can read an article about helping their child to use the internet safely. In the article you will find some useful tips, extra links and a free poster to download. NEW VIDEOS IN OUR LEARNENGLISH KIDS: PLAYTIME APP We've just added new grammar stories to our LearnEnglish Kids: Playtime app. Join Gran and Kitty to learn about prepositions and uncountable nouns. The app offers over 50 animated songs and stories to help children aged 6-11 years old learn English and build confidence in speaking. Play challenging games to improve spelling and understanding of words in the videos. In the separate Parents' area, mum and dad can buy new packs of videos or a full access subscription and view their child's progress.  Learn more about the app here and download it for free from the iTunes Store! FEBRUARY SPECIAL DAYS February 20th is Love Your Pet day. Children will enjoy our story about adopting a pet, and on our Pets your turn they can write about how much they love their pets! There is a printable worksheet about pets for them to complete as well. Younger kids can play our Pets paint it game and older children will enjoy our fun Identipet game. We have many more pet activities and games too.  February 17th is Shrove Tuesday, or Mardi Gras. In Britain we eat pancakes, and many countries around the world celebrate with a carnival.
