| In this lesson students will collaborate in a creative writing task. First they will listen to a song and write down words and phrases they hear. Then they will work in groups to write a poem, following some simple guidelines and using their collective words and phrases as a starting point. The learners will write a love poem that is 'corny' (overly sentimental) on purpose. This technique removes common reservations that some learners have about writing poetry. Learners will read their poems at the end of the lesson. Read more

| | We are pleased to continue our introduction of the E-merging Forum - 5 keynote speakers! One of the plenary speakers in the area of 'Assessment' is Jane Allemano. Jane has worked in ELT for over 30 years as a teacher, materials writer and consultant for Cambridge English. Her work for Cambridge English includes examiner, principal examiner and team leader for writing and speaking papers. She has also led on the writing of examination papers for the assessment of reading. The second speaker on 'Assessment' is Thom Kiddle. Thom is Director at NILE in Norwich in the UK, where he is responsible for all teacher training and development operations, and for the NILE Online teacher education courses. His professional interest areas are language assessment literacy for teachers, technology in language learning, teaching and testing, and online teacher education.

| | Hannah Ellis, granddaughter of Dylan Thomas, is our special guest speaker, who gives a new and exclusive talk following a journey through her grandfather's life. Hannah is joined by actor, Guy Masterson, Olivier Award winner and recipient of many Edinburgh Fringe Festival accolades. Together, they provide a guide to Dylan Thomas, illuminated by performance of his letters, prose, poetry, plays and use of language. | On Monday 16 February we will be hosting a fascinating podcast interview all about English as a Lingua Franca (ELF). Listen to Katy Davies, who will be discussing her ideas on pronunciation with specific reference to ELF, based on her extensive work with multilingual classes. And Saturday 21 February, we have the 'Accentuate: bringing pronunciation to the fore' all day conference, organised by NATECLA London and the IATEFL PronSIG. | This is a primary teacher development course for teachers of English teaching young learners aged 7 to 11 years old. It provides an introduction to the essential principles and practice of primary English language teaching. The course takes about 3 to 4 hours a week over 12 weeks.
