For the classroom this week we have a new lesson plan about 'food' as part of the IATEFL Global Issues SIG October event, and a discussion activity to find out your learners' classroom issues.

  

We also have a recording of the Jane Austen evening, news of the RSCON online conference taking place this month and a new collection of papers on teacher education in diverse environments.

Food issues

This lesson plan has been developed to support the IATEFL Global Issues SIG and their October event focusing on Food issues Read more

The lesson looks at two food-related topics: School dinners and Britain's Snack culture. In this lesson students do a jigsaw reading activity where they read and then compare two different texts about food issues. They do a fast and furious speaking activity to practise fluency. There are optional comprehension tasks based on the two texts to do in class or for homework. Read lesson plan
 

 
2013 Reform Symposium E-Conference (RSCON) 

                          

 

The 4th annual Reform Symposium Conference (RSCON), a free online three day event bringing together educators, students and innovators from around the world, will be held between October 11th and 13th in conjunction with Connected Educator Month. The entire conference will be held online using the Blackboard Collaborate platform. Participants can attend this conference free from anywhere that has Internet access.

This volume is a collection of papers derived from the Third International Teacher Educators Conference held in Hyderabad, India from 16 - 18 March 2013 on the theme English Language Teacher Education in a Diverse Environment. The publication examines the many contexts in which English teaching and learning takes place around the world and explores a broad range of issues from the challenges of teaching and learning languages in large, diverse classrooms to the implications this raises for the training and continuing professional development of teachers.
