Welcome to the latest edition of the TeachingEnglish newsletter. This week we

are pleased to announce two new additions to our Tools for Teachers on TeachingEnglish. The gap-fill generator and flashcard maker are designed to make preparing for lessons as simple as possible. Try them out and tell us what you think.  

 

On a more theoretical note, you can read our survey, conducted in 2 rural communities in Bangladesh, which investigates how English language education could contribute to development. You may also be interested in the call for papers for the 'Current trends in ELT' conference, to be held in September 2012 in Malta.


We've got the latest on the ELTons awards; the 2012 nominees have now been announced. The ELTons awards are a celebration of excellence in English language teaching from around the world and are in their tenth year.


For your classes this week we have a converstion lesson on music which looks at a variety of different genres of music. Finally, you can read an article about how to plan a writing lesson.

New gap-fill generator  

We are pleased to announce a new addition to our Tools for Teachers on TeachingEnglish. The new tool is a gap-fill generator, which you can use to create texts for your classes. The generator uses a database of thousands of authentic texts from sources such as the Guardian. You simply search for a keyword, choose your level and text, create your worksheets, and then print them!

Attitudes to English as a language for international development in rural Bangladesh

This ethnographic survey conducted in 2 rural communities in Bangladesh investigates the needs and aspirations of the local community in order to better understand how English language education could contribute to development.

The first ELT Conference organised by the EFL Monitoring Board will be held in September 2012 in Malta. The theme of the conference is 'Current trends in ELT' and proposals for talks and workshops on this theme are invited.

Conversation lesson - Music

Planning a writing lesson
TeachingEnglishTryWriting, unlike speaking, is not an ability we acquire naturally, even in our first language - it has to be taught. Unless L2 learners are explicitly taught how to write in the new language, their writing skills are likely to get left behind as their speaking progresses.
