Hello again!

Welcome to this week's newsletter which is full of exiting new content from the TeachingEnglish site. We have a lesson plan that looks at the modern and interesting urban sport of parkour, why not try it with your students. There's also a lesson on the more conventional sport of basketball.

For our more studious readers we have the latest in our Research Papers series, this time focussing on the impact of professional development in China. On a similar theme there is the British Council's continual professional development framework which will help you decide which point you're at in your career.

Finally one of our readers is quite new to teaching and would appreciate any help you can give him on deciding on the most appropriate method to use when in the classroom.

Happy teaching,

Duncan

 So many methods!

As a relative newcomer to teaching English, albeit fairly late in life, I am amazed at the variety and sheer volume of advice on teaching methods. My question is this; is the tried and trusted method of my youth still valid? If not, which basic principle should I follow to achieve my goal of teaching Thai adults how to improve their spoken English?
