It is the Year of the Tiger! Find lots of resources to celebrate Chinese New Year on LearnEnglish Kids, including online games, a great song and stories, and also activities that you can download and print. Click here to find all of the activities on new LearnEnglish Kids.
what animal are you?
So...are you a tiger? Or a dragon? Or an ox? Put your date of birth into the Chinese Zodiac machine and find out what animal you are. This is a fun activity to do with all members of the family and friends, and you can practise the names of many animals. It is a great introduction to the story about all of the animals - The Great Race.

So how much do you know about tigers? Test your knowledge with a quiz called Tiger English. The tiger has lost its stripes - you can help the tiger win stripes if you answer questions correctly. This quiz will help children learn all about tigers - and they can send tiger facts to the site! There is also a paper-based version of this game that you can download and print.
crafts for chinese new year
You can print a tiger for young children to colour in (talk about the colours in English); or you can make a fantastic paper dragon. Or watch a video and learn how to make a great paper lantern to decorate your home. You can find these activities in craft downloads.

tips for teachers
There are lots of places on new LearnEnglish Kids where children can join in. Work and comments from children who are members are published on the site - this is a really good way to motivate children to write in English. You can find notes and tips on encouraging children to send their work and comments to the site on the British Council/BBC website Teaching English.
