ELTons 2019 call for applications
Over the past 17 years, the British Council's ELTons Innovation Awards have celebrated the original courses, publications, projects, apps, platforms, and more, finding new ways to meet the needs of English language learners and teachers around the world. And we are now once again looking for the latest and most innovative resources for learning and teaching English. The call for applications to the 17th ELTons Awards for Innovation in English language teaching is now open. Submit your innovation by Friday 2 November 2019, 23.59 UK time.
English teaching in the post-truth era
Post-truth, fake news, alternative facts, truth isn't truth … there is no doubt that when future historians look back at this time, one of the main themes will be the strange relationship between politicians, the media, the public and facts. Read James Taylor's insightful article about teaching English in the post-truth era.
Over the mountains
In this lesson, young learners will be introduced to the popular song 'Over the mountains'. They will listen to the song, complete comprehension activities and extend their knowledge of transport vocabulary and collocations. Then they will practise using the present continuous structure, and sing the song. Finally, learners can do some extension work based on the song, inventing a new verse, creating some display work and playing a game.
Are you connected?
Belonging to a teacher association is a unique way to develop and become a better, more up-to-date professional, who will have a broader understanding of the current teaching practices and methodologies and a deeper knowledge of who our students are. Read Emmanuel Kontovas's post to learn more about the benefits that 'being connected' can bring.
Other cultures
One of the good things about migration is the opportunities it brings for learning about other cultures. In this speaking and discussion activity, adult and teenage students will be able to share their views and knowledge of other cultures. The activity is based on themes from the British Council's OPENCities project.
