TeachingEnglish - the global home for teachers
31 January 2017

Welcome to the TeachingEnglish newsletter
This week we are pleased to announce the topic of our February webinar - Implementing good teaching and learning inclusive practice with Phil Dexter.

For the classroom, we have useful tips on using a vocabulary box with kids, and a lesson for adult learners on the topic of 'money'.

To mark Safer Internet Day on 7 February, we also have a lesson plan for teenagers on the topic of online safety, and a useful guide to online safety by Fabiana Casella.

And finally, if you are a busy and stressed teacher who needs a few tips on how to balance work, study and life, take a look at our latest blog post - 'Be kind to yourself!'

We hope you find these resources useful.

A small box, such as a shoe box, is a very useful tool in the classroom - it can become a vocabulary box. Vocabulary boxes are fantastic - they provide so many activities, and can be used at different times for different reasons. Find out more about how to use a vocabulary box with your young learners.

Teaching teens

Safer Internet Day is on 7 February. This lesson for teenage learners addresses the topic of online safety in a motivating way, allowing students to discuss issues, share their opinions and ideas and then do some online activities to finish the lesson or as a homework task.

Teaching adults

This lesson plan for teachers of teen and adult students at A2 level looks at the language of 'money'. The lesson aims to raise students' awareness of verbs which collocate with 'money', give them practice using them and promote learner autonomy by encouraging them to deduce the meaning of unknown lexis from context.

Development

Nowadays, there are many sources educators can consult to learn about Internet safety, how we are protecting our students while surfing the net, or how we ensure their online safety. Read Fabia Casella's useful blog post for practical guidance on online safety.

Events

Join us on 22 February 12 pm UK time when Phil Dexter will talk about equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and how it can be built into professional development. This webinar will focus on good practice approaches to EDI, how to apply EDI in context, catering to the diverse needs of learners, and available resources and support.

Magazine

"One of the greatest challenges I have faced over the previous 12 months was finding a balance between teaching, studies, personal projects, and time for me. At times, it has felt like there haven't been enough hours in day, days in week, weeks in a month, and months in the year." Are you a busy or stressed teacher struggling to find a work, study, and life balance? Read Neil Millington's latest post 'Be kind to yourself!' for some practical advice.
