LearnEnglish Kids Newsletter
February 2016

Welcome to the latest LearnEnglish Kids newsletter.

SHAKESPEARE LIVES
Have you seen our new Shakespeare videos? A Midsummer Night's Dream and William Shakespeare help children to enjoy Shakespeare, learn about his life and practise English. Both videos have online activities and printable worksheets.

You'll also find these videos in 'Shakespeare Lives' on our LearnEnglish Kids: Playtime app. The app includes some of Shakespeare's most famous plays such as Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet, specially adapted for children learning English.

The British Council is marking the death of Britain's most famous playwright 400 years ago with the Shakespeare Lives programme. We hope you enjoy our videos!

SAFER INTERNET DAY
Safer Internet Day on 9 February helps promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

On LearnEnglish Kids, children can play our Online safety quiz and other online safety games to learn about staying safe on the internet, and write on the site about any extra tips they have on our Internet safety Your turn.

Parents and guardians can read our new Stay safe online Top tip with advice for parents and kids. Our Internet and computer safety article also comes with a free poster to download.

LUNAR NEW YEAR
The Lunar New Year starts on 8 February, and this year is the year of the monkey! To celebrate, we have a great new Monkeys quiz for kids to play.

Watch our My favourite day - Chinese New Year story or sing our Happy New Year song to find out about the special things that people do at this time. Children can also learn about all the Chinese zodiac animals in The great race story.

Kids might also like to make a Chinese lantern or dragon craft to decorate their room. If they celebrate Chinese New Year, they can write to us on our Chinese New Year Your turn and tell us what they do!

MORE SPECIAL DAYS
On 20 February celebrate Love Your Pet day! Children will enjoy our story about adopting a pet, and on our Pets Your turn they can write about how much they love their pets. There is a free worksheet about pets to print as well.

Younger kids can play our Pets Paint it game and older children will enjoy our fun Identipet game. We have many more pet activities and games too.

Shrove Tuesday, or Mardi Gras, is on 9 February. In Britain we eat pancakes, and many countries around the world celebrate with a carnival. Children will have fun learning about this festival and other special days with our Festivals in the UK quiz, and they can write about any carnivals they have been to on our Carnival Your turn.
