This week we announce a new publication drawn from papers and presentations delivered at the tenth International Language and Development Conference in Cape Town, which is now freely available to download.

For the classroom we have a series of three exciting posters with teacher's notes for you to use with your young learners.

We also have news of an upcoming webinar about the British Council Uruguay's innovative approach to teaching state school primary children through video-conferencing.

And finally, if you want to improve your English while developing your teaching skills, check out our English for Teaching courses starting in January 2015.

Language Rich Africa policy dialogue - The Cape Town language and development conference: Looking beyond 2015
                                     
In October 2013, the British Council hosted the tenth International Language and Development Conference, which coincided with reviews of progress worldwide towards the 2015 UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This collection is drawn from papers and presentations delivered at the three day event. The writers look at African languages, varieties of English and other languages from policy level to practical application in the classroom, and in the home and wider community.

Upcoming webinar - Graham Stanley: Remote teaching, distance learning, team teaching or blended learning?

                                  
Join us on 15 December, when Graham Stanley will be talking about how the British Council Uruguay are developing a unique approach to teaching English to state school primary children through video-conferencing. Due to a lack of qualified and experienced teachers in Uruguay, English is being taught in 2000+ primary classes all across the country via video conferencing, using teachers from elsewhere. As a result, a new type of methodology is being developed that combines elements of distance learning, team teaching and blended learning, but which also requires a unique approach.

It's If you are teaching English and want to improve your English while you also develop your teaching skills, then these courses are for you. There are three different courses in the English for Teaching series, depending on your English level: English for Teaching 1 - English level: from A2 to B1; English for Teaching 2 - English level: from B1 to B2; English for Teaching 3 - English level: from B2 to C. Courses start January 2015.
