British Council
LearnEnglish Kids Newsletter
September 2014

Welcome to the latest LearnEnglish Kids newsletter.

NEW CONTENT!

It's a new school year for us at LearnEnglish Kids, and we have added some new content to the site!

You will find lots of new worksheets and answer sheets for our grammar games. These games help children to practise different grammar points in a fun way, and the worksheets are free to download and use with your kids in class or at home.

We have also created some new craft worksheets for our Craft downloads section. What other craft activities would you like to see in this section? Why not write and tell us

And... a new app! LearnEnglish Kids is getting ready to launch a great new app for iOS - learn more about it in next month's newsletter! Until then, find out more about our children's mobile and tablet apps.

BACK TO SCHOOL
In the UK and many places around the world, children are going back to school after their long school holidays.

Older kids will enjoy our fun Superhero High story, set in a very unusual school, and younger children can sing our Quiet please song to practise useful classroom language.

We have lots of school activities, including games, videos and flashcards, and children can write about their school on our School Your turn.

HELP FOR PARENTS AND TEACHERS
mum and sons with laptop
Have you seen our video tips for parents? These videos show how you can do different activities with your children at home to practise English. We have added extra ideas and materials to each video to help you use and extend the activities.

Every week we add a 'Top tip' to our Parents page, and you can ask a question to our expert team and other parents and teachers in our forums

For teachers, on our sister site TeachingEnglish, you can find over 15 new lesson plans and lots of recently updated articles on teaching kids, all based on LearnEnglish Kids materials!

INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY

September 8 is International Literacy Day.

Our Speak and spell  section is based on the UK literacy programme, Letters and Sounds. The Sounds songs help children discover English phonemes, and the Speak and Spell stories help with saying and spelling English sounds. You can also download our free LearnEnglish Kids: Phonics Stories app.

Older children can try the Tricky words section to practise tricky English spellings! They can also write on the site about what they like reading or their favourite word in English, on our Reading and Favourite word Your turns.
