 | Teacher talk is a new series of videos featuring some of our TeachingEnglish Associates speaking about important teaching issues. In this video, the theme is encouraging speaking. Adam Simpson, Lizzie Pinard, Rachael Roberts and George Chilton give practical ideas on establishing why students are reluctant to use English. They then provide a number of fun and useful activities that can be used to encourage them to speak more in English.

Using praise correctly provides learners with positive reinforcement and can motivate them to learn and participate in lessons. A new study throws light on the subject of praise in classrooms.

| | This webinar with Gail Ellis - Thursday 2nd October, 11am UK time - will show how the rich and stimulating medium of story picturebooks and the technique of storytelling can develop children's English as well as encourage social and emotional development. Gail will present a range of picturebooks to identify the criteria to use when selecting picturebooks, as the key to successful storytelling is having the right story for the linguistic and cognitive ability of the children.

| | In this recording of his presentation on EAP at the E-merging Forum 4, Tony Prince talks about the provision of subject specific EAP and the production of relevant materials. Tony Prince is a Programme Manager for Pre-sessional and In-sessional courses at the University of East Anglia. He is responsible for the development of Content Integrated Pre-sessional courses dealing with Law, Science, Business, Economics and Computing, among others.

This paper explores this question in relation to four overseas TESOL trainees who study on a vocational Masters in TESOL at a UK university and carry out their teaching practice in Hungarian schools.
