For the classroom this week we have Christmas lesson plans for your young learners and two new lesson plans to introduce Jane Austen's novels Persuasion and Northanger Abbey.

Christmas for young learners: songs, cards, presents and decorations

In our first lesson children practise Christmas words with flashcard activities and games. They listen to and sing a Christmas song, then they make a Christmas card. In the second lesson children practise Christmas words with flashcards and online games. They make a Christmas craft, and enjoy a Christmas song or story. Read more

To mark the ten year anniversary, this year the scholarship is going global! Tracking the ups and downs of language teaching since 2002: Key findings from this year's language trends survey
                                     
This seminar focuses on the Language Trends Survey, which is the only school-focussed, subject-specific research exercise of its kind.  It has been carried out annually since 2002 and is frequently referred to by senior politicians, including the Secretary of State, academics and leading business organisations.

Jane Austen's Persuasion and Northanger Abbey

These lessons are designed to introduce students to the characters and plot of Jane Austen's novels. The first lesson provides basic information on the characters in Persuasion and also provides students with opportunities to develop creative writing skills. The second is designed to introduce students to the characters and plot of Northanger Abbey as well as to introduce students to Austen's ironic treatment of character and themes. Read more

New training to professionalise education agents industry 

                             

The British Council has launched a new online list of specially trained education agents around the world. The aim is to increase the number, effectiveness and quality of agents working on behalf of UK schools, colleges, language centres and universities and to build agent capacity and professionalism in an industry that plays a key role in the worldwide international student recruitment market.
