Communicate in two of the world's global languages - English and football

Welcome to the latest edition of the TeachingEnglish newsletter!

This week we have a lesson plan to develop your students' listening skills, particularly reading between the lines. Or if you are more interested in using video clips, then our article will help you exploit short clips and deal with any problems which may arise.

We also have a brand new seminar. Watch Luke Meddings exploring how to build memorable lessons from a non-'teaching' stimulus.

If you're interested in stories, British Council Turkey is calling for proposals for their 1st web conference. And on the theme of stories, we also have a social website "I tell you a story" where you can share your work.

And finally, if you're looking for more opportunities to share resources and ideas with like-minded colleagues around the world or in your region, why not check out our networks page?

Enjoy!

Lesson plan - Born, bred and buttered in London
TeachingEnglishTry

In this lesson students hear a man being interviewed about his life in London. He talks about the different parts of London he has lived in and how things have changed in these areas. This skills lesson ends with an optional grammar focus based around 'used to' and 'didn't use to'.

Found objects: How Picasso's bull's head can be used in the ELT classroom

newsletter-icontrain

The idea of found objects derives from taking things designed for another purpose and turning them into art: Picasso's bull's head made from bicycle parts is a famous example. The principle for teaching is the same: find something interesting and use it as stimulus for a lesson.
