Welcome to the latest edition of the TeachingEnglish newsletter. This week we are pleased to announce the publication of the free downloadable book 'The Benefits of the English Language for Individuals and Societies: Quantitative Indicators from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen'.

This week's top story on TeachingEnglish explains how the British Council are partnering Burma's Ministry of Education to train thousands of English teachers to improve the English levels of 2 million young Burmese each year.

Would you like to write to our website? You can read about our forums for teachers and find out where to post your comments and blog entries on the TeachingEnglish website. You can also read Nik Peachey's blog on how he uses social media for his professional development.

How do your students see you? We've got an interesting video for teachers to watch on this topic. For teachers to use in the classroom this week we have a lesson all about shopping in London which develops students' speaking skills and practises the use of idiomatic language.

Enjoy!
