Greetings!

This week's TeachingEnglish newsletter contains a mix of lesson plans, articles, ideas and questions. There's an article about using sitcoms as a teaching tool and also some teaching tips for first lessons as the new academic year starts in many countries.

There are two lesson plans for you to try, one focuses on the senses and the other is part of a new series of lessons based on the work of Charles Dickens whose 200th anniversary we will be celebrating on the TeachingEnglish site.

Finally, there's a request for help from one of our readers who wants to know how to best prepare a business English course without a course book. If you've got any experience creating these kinds of materials perhaps you could help out.

Best wishes

The first class

teachingenglishthink

Before going into your first class with a new group you may feel a little nervous. It can be quite daunting to stand up in front of people if you are not used to doing so, and for many Language Assistants who are students themselves it will be a strange kind of role reversal.
