Hello again! In this week's edition of the newsletter we've got a range of articles and activities from the world of ELT. There's news of two recent publications from the British Council which can both be downloaded from the TeachingEnglish website. The first is the EAQUALS core inventory for English which creates the basis for a core curriculum of English and the second publication is edited by Hywel Coleman and looks at the spread of Global English in developing countries. There's something for you to take into class in the form of the 'Goodbye game' and there's plenty of contributions from our readers in the form of blog entries and comments. Also this week there is the first in a series of short videos from IATEFL in Brighton in which attendees give their opinions on a variety of topics. Why not let us know what you most enjoy about teaching by leaving a comment. Best wishes, Duncan TeachingEnglish Team | British Council | BBC |

| Social/community listening | | | |
 | Today I'd like to write about teaching listening. Listening generally is a very personal activity. What one actually listens and understands nobody knows unless it is articulated or people have ways to find out. Some people even go to the extent of telling listening as a 'passive' skill. But for a teacher of listening skills like me it is not and it never can be. Read more |
