April 2016

Welcome to the latest LearnEnglish Kids newsletter.

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
This month we are celebrating the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death. Shakespeare wrote at least 38 plays, and 400 years later they are some of the most popular and performed plays in the world.

Children can watch our William Shakespeare story to learn more about his life, and then try the games and downloadable worksheet.

SHAKESPEARE LIVES
We have six special videos adapted for children, which tell the stories of some of Shakespeare's most famous plays, including Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Each video comes with games and a downloadable worksheet.

On TeachingEnglish, teachers will find lesson plans for each video aimed at primary-aged children.

Find out more about how the British Council is celebrating Shakespeare with the Shakespeare Lives project.

CHILDREN'S APP SALE
We're excited to announce a new kids' app coming soon, Learning Time with Timmy 2!

To celebrate, we're putting two of our kids' apps on sale on the iTunes App Store. Get a free one-month subscription in our LearnEnglish Kids: Playtime app and start watching over 100 video stories and songs to practise listening and reading. Get more than 50% off our Learning Time with Timmy app and start playing fun games to learn spelling and vocabulary!

Don't wait, the sale ends on 4 April!

APRIL SPECIAL DAYS
23 April is St George's Day, and children will enjoy watching our George and the dragon story to find out why he is the patron saint of England and many other countries.

World Health Day is on 7 April, and World Malaria Day takes place on 25 April. Our I'm too ill story talks about different illnesses, and in The story of quinine, children can learn about a medicine that helps fight malaria. Kids can also print and play games with our new Health flashcards, or print a version to colour and write to make their own set.
