Milestones in ELT
newslettericon-transform Over the last 75 years, we have issued many important publications that have set the agenda for ELT professionals, often in partnership with other organisations and institutions. As part of our 75th anniversary celebrations, we are re-launching a selection of those publications online.
Personal learning networks
teachingenglishthink This is the second article by our Guest Writer Gavin Dudeney in which he looks at the much-hyped micro-blogging platform 'Twitter'. Rather than using the site for simply letting people know what you're up to, Gavin describes how you can use it to create personal learning platforms.
Learning styles
TeachingEnglishTry This lesson is based on an audio extract which can be found on the British Council LearnEnglish Professionals website. It encourages students to reflect on their learning styles and gives them an opportunity to put into practice the learning strategies they hear on the audio.
Which English?
British English? American English? Indian English? There are many different forms of English depending on where you are in the world. So which one should you teach - if any? Is it worthwhile pointing out differences in grammar, spelling, pronunciation and usage, or should we aim to teach an International English?
Does co-education corrupt the youth?
talk icon Some think that co-education is best and some favour separate schools for boys and girls. The intensity of the problem may be different from country to country and culture to culture but the attraction to opposite sex is the same all over the world.
