| The TeachingEnglish newsletter is back from the summer break with news of more exciting resources for you! This week we have several new lessons on the themes of WW1 and Shakespeare, and CLIL activities - Science in schools.

 | The soldier and the pacifist is about two brothers, one a soldier who fought in the Battle of the Somme, the other a conscientious objector who was imprisoned for his refusal to do any work that supported the war effort. Students read some background about the brothers, do a jigsaw reading about their experiences during the war and then role play a newspaper interview with one or both of the brothers. Migration and the first world war provides students with information about where, why and when people migrated. It allows students the opportunity to compare migration trends around the War with today. |

| | Such Tweet Sorrow is about a performance of Romeo and Juliet carried out entirely on Twitter, using 140-character messages from the characters in the play. Disguise and deception aims to introduce students to the historical and religious context of Shakespeare's England through exploring the theme of disguise. Women in Shakespeare's plays examines the role of women in Shakespeare's day (16th/17th century), and compares this with the roles and characters of some of the women in his plays. And King Richard and King John gives students listening practice and develops a set of vocabulary to talk about personality. |

| | In this Electricity and lightning workshop: making a news report learners prepare a journalist role play for a news report interview using role cards to support the language, structure and content. They then observe each other's groups and use the peer assessment table to give feedback.In Electricity and lightning workshop: aircraft design learners start by discussing the painting of 'The Fall of Icarus' and two proverbs on flying. They are introduced to aircraft material vocabulary and compare a glider to an Airbus using their knowledge of the comparative form. They also discuss what would happen if the respective aircraft were struck by lightning and carry out an interactive activity describing images of aircraft being struck by lightning using prepositional phrases. |

| | The British Council Russia and Cambridge University Press have developed a unique coursebook 'English for Academics', which will help university staff to develop the skills needed to participate effectively in international dialogue. In our blog we will tell you more about this coursebook, authors and the project itself.
